Brow Lift Q & A

What is a browlift?

A browlift, or forehead lift, reduces the signs of aging that occur in the upper one-third of the face, and can help reduce or eliminate the appearance of a sagging or scowling brow line while also improving the shape of the brows themselves.

How is the browlift procedure performed?

The browlift procedure may be performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation. Once the anesthesia is in effect, Dr. Alessi will make a series of small incisions that allow him to access the underlying tissues and muscles that support the brow area. Using special instruments, Dr. Alessi will access those tissues and gently reposition and elevate them, removing excess skin as needed. The incisions sites can vary based on the area of your brow that needs to be addressed. Full browlifts may require larger incisions to get the results you want, but incisions are easily hidden by your hairline. Dr. Alessi will discuss your options during your evaluation.

What is the recovery process like after a browlift?

Surgical bandages will usually be removed a day or two after your procedure. Most patients experience some bruising and swelling around the eyes that typically resolves within a week to 10 days, after which you usually may resume work and other normal activities. Makeup can be worn to hide any remaining bruising after 10 days or so. Sleeping with the head elevated during recovery can help swelling resolve more quickly.

Can a browlift be performed with other procedures?

Yes; in fact, many patients opt to have their browlift performed in conjunction with other procedures like eyelid surgery, laser skin tightening or filler injections to achieve an all-over rejuvenated appearance akin to a mini-facelift.

How can I tell if I'm a good candidate for a browlift?

Browlifts can be performed on patients well into their 80s as long as they enjoy good general health with no clotting or other blood-related disorders. During your consultation, Dr. Alessi will discuss any risk factors that mean you're not an ideal candidate. Typically, though, most men and women are good candidates for browlift surgery.
