Brow Lift / Forehead Lift

image browlift Brow Lift / Forehead LiftLike most people considering a brow lift, you’ve probably begun to notice deep horizontal lines on your forehead or deep furrows above the nose between the eyebrows; causing you to look as if you’re frowning, tired, or angry. This aging look of the upper face may be inevitable, but that doesn’t mean you have to accept it.  A brow lift in Beverly Hills at the Alessi Institute for Facial Plastic Surgery can restore a younger, more refreshed, alert appearance by minimizing forehead creases and repositioning a low, heavy brow.

Candidates for a Brow Lift in Beverly Hills
Also known as forehead lift, a brow lift may be a good choice if you want to rid yourself of loose skin and wrinkles on your forehead. The next time you’re in front of a mirror, take a moment to push up the skin on your forehead by your hairline. See how your eyebrows lift slightly and your forehead lines smooth out? This is a glimpse into what brow lift surgery may accomplish for you.
The procedure can be ideal for people who have:

  • Sagging eyebrows that may cause an angry or scowling appearance
  • Heaviness in eyebrows (which may also limit your field of vision due to the low position of the brow that may cause upper eyelid skin to hang over the outer eye corners)
  • Deep wrinkles, frown lines or creases across the forehead
  • Deep furrows or a low/heavy brow due to prominent muscle activity or genetics
  • Used BOTOX® to smooth out forehead wrinkles but are now ready for a more permanent solution

Most of our brow lift patients are typically between forty and seventy, though our doctors can help younger individuals who may want to reduce frown lines, deep forehead creases and a low brow.

Surgery Overview
Brow lift is usually performed under general anesthesia in a fully-accredited, out-patient surgical facility or hospital. During this procedure, underlying muscle and tissue of the forehead are repositioned, removed or adjusted–in order to correct forehead wrinkles and furrows–while slightly elevating the brows.

One of two methods are used for this procedure.

The Endoscopic Brow Lift method is the least invasive approach and involves three to five small incisions made within the hairline (each less than 1-inch in length). A small pencil-like video camera instrument (endoscope) is inserted into the incision sites and provides the surgeon with clear images on a television monitor of the muscles and tissues beneath the skin to be altered or removed. The eyebrows are then raised to a higher, but natural-looking position.

The Coronal Brow lift method uses an incision that is well concealed behind the hairline and spans across the top of the head–from ear to ear–giving the surgeon the ability to focus in on specific areas of the brow to reposition/correct. Recovery time is slightly longer with this method due to the extended size of incision area. You will experience some swelling, bruising, which usually subsides within 3 weeks. Your forehead will feel tight and itchy.

Using either of the above methods, Dr. Alessi can directly access underlying tissue and muscle.

ANOTHER METHOD OFFERED AT ALESSI INSTITUTE is:

The Invisiline™ or Transbleph Browlift–developed by Dr. Alessi and Dr. Anna Hsu as a less invasive method for brow lift and eyelid correction. Although traditional brow lift can often be performed with upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Alessi has refined this technique and is able to  perform these combined procedures through the same incisions made for upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), hidden within the crease of the upper eyelid. This procedure is ideal for those who wish to avoid incisions in the scalp typically required for endoscopic or conventional brow lift procedures. Invisiline™ is performed under local anestheisa in less than an hour. The brow is lifted using an absorbable implant called the Endotine Transbleph Fixation Device, which secures the elevated brow tissue in place. Invisiline™ can combine a blepharoplasty with brow lift for a more improved upper eyelid rejuvenation overall–removing excess eyelid skin, reducing lines above the nose, and elevating a low brow to create a more youthful, relaxed and refreshed appearance. A key advantage noted with use of the Endotine device is that during surgery your surgeon can easily re-adjust brow height and shape for optimal correction and positioning.   Learn more about Invisiline™ by scheduling a private consultation in Beverly Hills.

After Surgery
Recovery can vary with each individual patient. Your head will be wrapped to minimize swelling. You will experience some temporary numbness, discomfort & itching around the incision area. Bandages will be removed after a couple of days but you should plan on taking it easy for the first several days. Many of the symptoms experienced can be controlled with medication. Typically our brow lift patients are ready to return to work and normal activities within five to ten days, which is when sutures will be removed.

You can expect people to notice that you look well rested, alert and maybe even ten years younger, but they may not know exactly what you’ve done to achieve this natural-looking vibrant appearance!

Related Procedures
Brow lifts are very often combined with other facial plastic surgery procedures to create a more comprehensive improvement and overall youthful look.

Eyelid Surgery: Results can be particularly dramatic when a brow lift is combined with upper eyelid surgery, both elevating the eyebrows and tightening loose excess upper eyelid skin for a more rested and youthful look.

Facelift: While a brow lift focuses on the upper area of the face, a facelift is all about smoothing and tightening the lower areas to include cheeks, neck and jaw line. By combining these procedures you can refresh and rejuvenate your entire face at the same time.

BOTOX® Cosmetic: BOTOX can provide an additional way to freshen and smooth skin in areas around the eyes (smile lines or crow’s feet) and forehead that brow lift surgery cannot address. It is often a good choice to help people who’ve had a brow lift maintain their youthful, new appearance.
